• Robert Hodge is a multidisciplinary artist native of Houston’s historic Third Ward.

  • Technique:

Robert Hodge’s practice navigates the intersections of Black history, Southern identity, and reclamation through material and memory. Working primarily through collage and mixed media, Hodge transforms found ephemera—album covers, archival imagery, ash, and other remnants of lived experience—into richly layered compositions that chronicle the past while interrogating the present. His practice functions as both a form of preservation and resistance, recontextualizing fragments of Black cultural production into new visual narratives of endurance and transcendence.

  • Exposure:

Hodge’s work has been featured in major institutions including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt; Centre Pompidou; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; and Artpace, among others. His recent acquisition, Promise You Will Sing About Me, joined the permanent collection of Ruby City in San Antonio.
