This piece is a call to accelerate the reduction of our plastic consumption, and work on more circularity in plastic production. Around the world, 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute, while up to five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year.
The mural comes in support of UNEP’s global initiative to create the first international legally binding treaty that protects people and the planet from plastic pollution for generations to come.
It is inspired by the popular super hero Miraculous Ladybug. She is fighting the plastic robot villain to save our planet! In the artist’s signature style, hidden behind the ribbons of Ladybug is an activist girl who symbolizes all of us - especially the younger generation that will inherit our Earth. In the painting, Ladybug uses her yoyo to hit the Stop Button on the evil robot running an overloaded plastic bottle plant. It is a playful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing our plastic use.
